How many times have we found treasures that we hid when we were young and years later they appear like time capsules? Well, something similar happened to Taylor Bayer with her makeup box, which she found 8 years later after a conversation with a coworker. She shared her story on her TikTok profile, and it went viral because the makeup she had kept were pure relics from the 2010s, which are no longer in fashion or used.

Brands like Jeffree Star, Urban Decay, the Becca palette by Jaclyn Hill, or the Sweet Peach and Chocolate Bar eyeshadows by Too Faced were some of the relics that she excitedly and lovingly showcased in a video that ended up going viral. Not only did a huge number of people see it, but they also felt encouraged to comment, sharing with her the nostalgia of the type of makeup that was used back then, and how happy they had been with those products.

There were also some who found it absurd, claiming that 8 years isn’t that long to consider that little box a childhood memory. But, whatever floats your boat! Without a doubt, makeup marks eras and evokes pleasant memories of the past.

Childhood memories

Many times I have wondered why, when we are children, we have this tendency to keep and hide what we consider true treasures, hoping that our future self will find them. Objectively, they will not have the same value as when we were small, but certainly the emotional value they generate is immeasurable. I like to think it’s a way of reminding us who we were and the things that mattered to us, but that is just a personal opinion.

I’m sure that if you search through your childhood home, you will find objects that were super important and held great value when you were a child, and although the discovery may not hold value beyond the memory, the feelings it generates are inexplicable.

Makeup as a time capsule

Something like finding a childhood treasure happened to Taylor Bayer. After a conversation with a coworker, he remembered that his mother had kept a box with all his old makeup at home, and he went to retrieve it. “I was so excited, and it was very nostalgic to find it. The week before, I had been chatting with a coworker about that specific era of beauty, and I remembered that I still had some things at my parents’ house. I sent a message to my mom to tell her I was going to visit that weekend, and we went through my old dressing room.

We found other things, but among them was this box of makeup. I was completely amazed,” he stated to Newsweek. She decided to share that moment on her TikTok profile, unaware that the video would go viral and spark engagement from her followers. It was about makeup that has nothing to do with the current trend, which is lighter and more natural.

That box contained bright, strong, and striking colored shadows. She narrated what she had found, referencing brands like Jeffree Star and Urban Decay. She also said, ‘2016 was the year of the highlighter,’ referring to the brand Champagne Pop as one of her essentials. ‘The Sweet Peach and Chocolate Bar eyeshadows from Too Faced smelled amazing,’ she remembered.

The networks respond

As with all viral videos, there were comments of all kinds. Some shared those memories with Bayer and added that they would love for them to become trending again. Others believe it is a waste of money, and that it’s not even being used, while others think that considering a box from 8 years ago a time capsule is absurd. Regardless, recovering that box brought back good memories for Bayer, which at the end of the day, is what matters in this story.
