If you are one of those who mooch off a family member or friend’s Amazon Prime account, I have bad news. More specifically, Amazon has announced that starting October 1, 2023, those who have Amazon Prime will no longer have access to the ‘Prime Invitee’ feature, which allowed other subscribers to enjoy the benefits of the Prime account. This information about Jeff Bezos’s company was reported by FOX Business earlier this week. Although this option will disappear and will not be replaced, Amazon will be introducing a new program called Amazon Household.
Through it, subscribers will be able to share some of the benefits of a Prime subscription with another adult in the same household, 4 teenagers, and 4 children. Subscribing to the Prime program includes free delivery in 1 or 2 days, Prime Video, Prime Reading, and exclusive discounts for members, such as Prime Day. All these services cost $139 annually in the United States, and although the benefits can no longer be shared with non-members, it remains one of the leading e-commerce platforms.
Amazon
Founded by Jeff Bezos in Bellevue, Washington, United States, Amazon.com, Inc. is a U.S. corporation dedicated to e-commerce and cloud computing services at all levels. Based in Seattle, it is the largest company selling goods over the internet and one of the first in the market. It started as an online bookstore and evolved to become the largest e-commerce retailer in the world. Among the products and services it offers are cloud computing through Amazon Web Services (AWS), digital content streaming, online advertising, and artificial intelligence development.
Amazon Prime
Among the many services offered by the company Amazon, the Amazon Prime plan stands out. It is a paid subscription program that offers members a range of benefits that cannot be enjoyed with the free version. The benefits offered meet different needs. On one hand, it offers free shipping on millions of products, as well as fast delivery in less than 2 days. You probably know how convenient it is to order a product and have the doorbell ring the next day, and voilà! There it is!
In addition, the Prime subscription also offers unlimited access to Prime Video, which provides a wide variety of TV shows, movies, and Amazon original productions. For book lovers, they also offer Prime Reading, with rotating access to books and magazines. Amazon Music for those who want to enjoy music without ads or any kind of advertising, Prime Gaming for video games, and also Amazon Photos, where you can store photos in the cloud for free. All of this requires a payment of $139 annually in the United States.
The deal is over!
It is no surprise to anyone (and even less to Amazon) that many people use the Prime account of a family member or friend without being a subscriber. This has been possible until now thanks to the “Prime Invite” option, through which one can enjoy all the benefits of Amazon Prime without being a member. However, Amazon has decided to eliminate this service, and it will do so starting October 1, 2025, as reported by FOX Business.
Amazon Household
In compensation, Amazon has announced the launch of a new subscription model, Amazon Household. Through this program, Amazon Prime subscribers will still be able to share their benefits but with exceptions. Now it can only be done with one adult who lives in the same household, along with four teenagers and four children, all through linked accounts. Although it does not replace Prime Invite, it represents a practical choice for families.
Did you know Amazon also accepts purchases through SNAP? Don’t miss out and check it out here!
