Daniella Hines, a mother from Riverview, Florida, experienced the birth of her son as if it were a historical event. On September 3rd, she gave birth to her son Annan Hines at St. Joseph’s – South Hospital, who weighed 13 pounds, 15 ounces (around 6 kilograms). The mother stated that, despite it being a cesarean delivery, she noticed the pressure as he was being extracted, due to his large size. However, this experience was not so different from what she went through with her first son, Andre Jr., who weighed 12 pounds, 11 ounces (approximately 5 kilograms) at birth.
The size and weight of her children come as no surprise considering that both she and her husband are over 6 feet tall (about 1.80 meters). If the measurements of these babies seem large to you (which they are), you won’t believe it when I tell you that the official record is held by Anna Haining Bates, whose son was born weighing nothing less than 22 pounds (9.98 kilograms)!
An unforgettable delivery
On September 3, 2025, an event took place at St. Joseph’s Hospital-South in Riverview, Florida, that those present will remember for a long time. Daniella Hines went into labor and chose this hospital to bring her second child into the world. After being unable to have a natural birth, a cesarean section was performed, and this is how her baby Annan Hines came into the world. In front of the TODAY press, the mother stated, “I remember thinking, ‘What are they taking out of me?’ What’s happening here?’ I felt so much pressure”. Why did she say this? Why had she felt so much pressure despite having undergone a cesarean section?
“He came out of me?”
“He was so big. I was like, ‘Whose baby is this? He came out of me?” Hines added. “Then everyone starts coming in because it’s not every day you see a nearly 14-pound baby pop out. He was like a little celebrity,” Daniella declared. Her son came into the world with measurements that left not only the hospital staff speechless but also his own parents. The average weight of a newborn baby is about 7 pounds. Do you know how much Annan Hines weighed? 13 pounds and 15 ounces! “We didn’t expect such a big blessing. I can’t wait to show him when he’s older: ‘Look, you were on the news!'” she joked.
The truth is that, although the baby’s measurements are off the average (they even double it), Daniella had already gone through something similar with the birth of her first child. In the case of Andre Jr, he weighed 12 pounds and 11 ounces! However, these measurements make sense when you look at the parents: both Daniella and her husband Andre Sr. are over 6 feet tall (around 1.80 meters), so it is logical that their children are big and tall. Furthermore, it is also worth noting that Daniella suffered from gestational diabetes, which is related to the weight the baby may have at birth. “We didn’t expect such a big blessing,” said Hines. “But it’s more than love!” she stated.
Record to the biggest baby
Although the measurements of these babies are astonishing, they are not the largest that have ever been recorded. The official record is held by Anna Haining Bates, a mother who gave birth to a baby weighing 22 pounds (almost 10 kg)! This event took place in Seville, Ohio, United States, on January 19, 1879. Haining Bates’ baby not only holds the record for the heaviest baby but also the longest, measuring 28 inches (71.12 centimeters) in length!
