In this situation, the creator of Meta Platforms, Mark Zuckerberg, aims to maintain constant updates in terms of security to prevent users from suffering hacks following theft. To protect account access, the application offers tools such as biometric lock, two-step verification, and linked device management. It can also even lock individual chats through the Chat Lock feature. This application is part of Meta Platforms, owned by Mark Zuckerberg, who is very aware of the need to protect users’ digital privacy. That is why this application, used by millions of people around the world, requires strong security measures to prevent users from being hacked following the loss of their device or theft of their personal accounts.WhatsApp’s protection system has several tools that ensure account security, such as biometric lock, two-step verification, and management of linked devices. Knowing and making use of all of them will provide a level of security for your device and your personal account.

“Anti-theft” mode on WhatsApp

To lock the app and protect it, you must follow these steps:Go to Settings.Tap on Privacy.Choose the App Lock option. This last option lets you choose between facial recognition or fingerprint lock. Once activated, you will need to confirm your identity every time you open the app.

Two-step verification

To enable this type of protection, you must go to Settings > Account > Two-step Verification. This feature requires a six-digit PIN that only you know and will be requested when logging in on a new device. According to the specialized portal SheetWA, it is one of the most effective measures, blocking any attempt of fraudulent activation.

Other WhatsApp features

In the hypothetical case that someone managed to bypass the initial security measures explained (which is practically impossible unless they know your personal passwords), there is another tool that can be useful. This is the ability to lock individual chats through the Chat Lock feature, which allows you to secure specific conversations where the information is considered more sensitive. Accessing that chat will require facial recognition or a fingerprint, and the messages will not appear in the main inbox.

The “View Once” feature is another tool, applicable to image files and audio messages, which are automatically deleted after being viewed. Along with all these tips, one of the main recommendations from cybersecurity specialists is to keep the application updated to receive encryption updates and security patches. They also recommend not sharing the SMS verification code with anyone.
