It's official - Sacramento launches $725/month payments for families with young children and here are the requirements and key dates for the FFESP program

The federal poverty levels and child poverty in Sacramento County have forced authorities to take action. This is why the Family First Economic Support Pilot (FFESP) has been created. It is a proposal driven by United Way California Capital Region along with the Sacramento County Department of Child, Family and Adult Services (DCFAS), with the aim of providing financial assistance of $725 to parents and legal guardians with young children. This guaranteed income program also offers support, financial advice, support groups, and connections with local community organizations. Although the application deadline has already closed, there are some requirements that applicants must meet.

They include aspects such as the zip code, which must match those listed by the FFESP, corresponding to Sacramento County. The age of the children and the length of residence at the address will also be taken into account, as well as household income, which must be below the federal poverty level (FPL). They also cannot be beneficiaries of other guaranteed income, whether from private entities or government-funded. If they are finally eligible, individuals will receive a payment of $725 per month until July 15, 2026.

Family First Economic Support Pilot (FFESP)

In order to fight against child poverty and improve the quality of life for families in Sacramento County, United Way California Capital Region, in partnership with the Sacramento County Department of Child, Family and Adult Services (DCFAS), has promoted the creation of the Family First Economic Support Pilot (FFESP). This measure goes far beyond offering financial support; it provides a whole network of support for parents or legal guardians with young children in their care. In addition to a monthly income of $725, eligible families will have access to individualized financial counseling, support groups, webinars, and access to local community organizations. The aim is to cover the most vulnerable families from all possible angles.

How to apply for the FFESP? Am I eligible?

The deadline to apply for this aid of $725 expired on April 27, 2025, at 11:59 pm. However, those who applied within the deadline had to do so through the official website ffesp.org, submitting an electronic application. As is the case with any social aid, applicants must meet a series of requirements before being accepted as eligible. Among these requirements are aspects such as:

  • Residency. Applicants must reside at addresses with the following zip codes: 95815, 95821, 95823, 95825, 95828, and 95838.
  • Childcare. Since this is assistance for families, the applicant must be a mother, father, or legal guardian of a child between 0 and 5 years old, who must reside with the applicant at least 50% of the time.
  • Household income. The annual household income cannot exceed 200% of the federal poverty level (FPL). This income is calculated by adding all the household incomes before taxes.
  • Not being a beneficiary of any other guaranteed income. Receiving the FFESP is not compatible with being a beneficiary of other government or private programs that guarantee a fixed income.

Availability of the FFESP

The administration is carrying out the resolutions of the FFESP applications. After the wait, applicants will be informed if they finally meet the necessary characteristics and requirements, and whether or not they have been deemed eligible. If so, beneficiaries will receive the monthly FFESP payment of $725 for a period of 12 months. They will be able to enjoy this benefit until the year 2026, with a deadline set for July 15.

The FFESP is not the only assistance program for families provided in the United States. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is well known, which has updates such as the ability to shop online at Walmart or Amazon. Read more about these updates here!
