Ford Motor Company is in a really delicate situation. It is facing the recall of more than 600,000 vehicles from the U.S. market. This initiative, driven by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and by Ford itself, aims to recall all those vehicles that pose a potential hazard to drivers. The affected models include the well-known crossovers, the Ford Escape, manufactured in the United States, and the Ford Bronco Sport, manufactured in Mexico, both with a 1.5-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost engine. The reason for the recall is related to the fuel injector supplied by Dumarey Flowmotion Technologies, which tends to crack and cause fuel to come into contact with hot surfaces, leading to a fire.
Until a better solution is found, Ford will update the software of the affected vehicles as it has done previously. Owners of these models who do not know whether they are affected or not will be able to check by reviewing their vehicle identification number (VIN). Between August 18 and 22, 2025, Ford drivers will receive the relevant notifications regarding the final solution adopted by Ford.
Ford recalls
Ford is not going through its best moment. Currently, it is facing a massive recall of several models of its vehicles due to a failure that, at first glance, seems to be unable to be fixed with a software update, as the brand usually does. This breakdown goes beyond a simple technical failure, as it is potentially dangerous and causes fires in Ford’s most popular models, the Ford Escape (2020-2022) and the Bronco Sport (2021-2024).
Last July, it also had to issue a recall of 132,000 vehicles due to a fault that caused parts to fall off while driving. The problem not only has high economic consequences but also affects consumer trust. Who is going to bet on a brand whose cars lose parts along the way and can catch fire at any moment?
What is the malfunction that causes this latest massive recall?
The reason for the recall is not a minor malfunction. Initially, it is attributed to the high-pressure fuel injector XL3, specifically those with part numbers HX7G-9F597-BB and HX7G-9F597-BC. These parts, supplied by the Italian company Dumarey Flowmotion Technologies, are cracking, allowing gasoline to leak into the engine’s cylinder head. What is the severity? If these leaks come into contact with high-temperature surfaces, it could cause a fire under the hood. So far, 8 cases of fire have been reported in the US market, fortunately without any human injuries. Prior to this malfunction, the brand had already requested drivers to perform a software update, but it seems it did not correct the error.
Which vehicles are affected?
According to the brand, all Ford models with a 1.5L EcoBoost engine are being affected by this issue. Among them are the two most popular models of the brand within its crossover lineup:
- Ford Escape: Model years 2020, 2021, and 2022 manufactured in the United States.
- Ford Bronco Sport: Model years 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 manufactured in Mexico.
Watch out! If your vehicle has a 1.5L turbocharged three-cylinder engine, it is on the list of affected models. If, on the other hand, you have 2.0L EcoBoost or 2.5L hybrid engines, you need not worry about the recall.
What does Ford say about this situation?
To date, Ford has not found a final solution to this problem. This time it is a mechanical failure, so a different plan has to be developed. However, they will repeat their mode of action, updating the software of the vehicles, as they did in previous recalls in 2022, 2022, and 2025. Meanwhile, between August 18 and 22, 2025, those affected will receive informative notifications on how to proceed with their vehicles, and to inform them of the solution that will be adopted.
If you have questions about whether your vehicle is among those affected, you just need to check the vehicle identification number (VIN), and Ford can provide you with that information.
