Starting September 30, 2025, workers in Florida will have good news. Thanks to Amendment 2 of the State Constitution approved in 2020, the minimum wage will increase and will continue to do so automatically each year. A measure voted on in the 2020 general elections, from which the minimum wage in Florida will go from $13 for now to $14. The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) supports this new measure and applies it to those workers covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), which includes both full-time and part-time workers.
Currently, the federal minimum wage in the United States is $7.25 per hour, and it has remained that way since 2009, without changes. Despite the rising cost of living due to relentless inflation, workers have to manage their expenses with the same amount of income. This is why states have decided to act unilaterally, adjusting the minimum wage as much as possible, offering competitive and fair salaries for workers.
Federal minimum wage

Florida takes action
The residents of Florida who are currently working should mark the following date on their calendar: September 30, 2025. After the 2020 general elections, 60% of voters supported the proposal to raise the minimum wage from $13 to $14. This measure is part of Amendment 2 of the State Constitution approved that same year, which proposes an automatic increase that started in 2021 and will last until 2026, reaching $15.
Florida raises its minimum wage
This increase is backed by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO), and it will apply to those workers covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), which includes both part-time and full-time workers. The goal of this measure is to protect the state’s workers from the impact of the economic situation the country is going through. From 2020 until now, 2025, Florida’s minimum wage has increased from $10 per hour to $14 per hour, reaching $15 per hour next year 2026. For their part, those workers who also receive tips will receive a cash wage of $10.98 per hour, starting on the same day as the expected increase, September 30.
The state acts on its own
Relying on data and not on opinions, it can be observed how the U.S. economy is not doing as well as some would like to believe. With a federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour, the state of Florida understands that it is completely unfeasible to cope with the cost of living.
