On September 4, 2025, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced a massive recall of vehicles from the automaker, Stellantis North America. The recall affects the Jeep brand, specifically the Jeep Grand Cherokee Plug-In hybrid electric SUVs that are on the roads of the United States. The reason? A fault has been detected in the models corresponding to the manufacturing years 2022-2025: due to an error in the hybrid control processor, they are experiencing power loss. Despite being a failure that jeopardizes the road safety of drivers, the company has not yet developed a solution. However, it advises owners to check if their vehicle is part of the massive recall by consulting their Vehicle Identification Number (VINs) on the NHTSA website.
Stellantis North America, Jeep
Stellantis North America is the branch of the automotive group Stellantis that operates in the northern United States. It was formed in 2021 following the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and Groupe PSA. It is the company that represents, designs, produces, and markets brands such as Jeep, Chrysler, Alfa Romeo, and Fiat in countries like the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Jeep, for its part, is an American brand of vehicles characterized by being off-road, rugged, and retaining four-wheel drive since its origin in World War II. It has evolved from its early models, such as the military Willys MB, to the current Wrangler and Grand Cherokee.
Massive Recall
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), part of the U.S. Department of Transportation and responsible for enforcing vehicle and roadway safety standards, announced on September 4, 2025, a massive recall affecting Stellantis North America. This recall affects more than 91,000 vehicles, specifically the Jeep Grand Cherokee Plug-In Hybrid Electric SUV model. The affected units were manufactured between 2022-2025 and are reportedly experiencing a power loss. It is believed to be due to a fault in the hybrid control processor, as stated in the announcement, “A loss of engine power increases the risk of an accident”.
Jeep has made a statement
From the automotive manufacturing company, it is recommended that owners check if their vehicle is among those affected. To do this, they advise comparing the vehicle identification number (VINs) on the NHTSA website. A customer service number has also been provided to contact the company directly and resolve any pertinent questions. Customer service: 800-853-1403, EXT: 73C. Despite this recommendation, the truth is that Jeep has not yet found a solution to this problem, so they have only been able to commit to notifying those affected as soon as they have one. They claim that they have not received any reports of injuries related to this software failure, at least until now.
What now?
For the moment, no legal actions have been taken against Stellantis or Jeep, but Top Class Action is closely monitoring the case to report any further changes. Unfortunately for the company, this is not the only massive recall they have been forced to announce this year. Last July, they had to do it with the Pacifica and Voyager minivan models, when over 250,000 models from the years 2022-2025 were affected by an airbag failure.
