Nissan´s recall
Nissan Canada spokeswoman Didier Marsau and the Associated Press announced a massive recall of 443,899 models in the United States and 37,837 in Canada. With more than 480,000 vehicles affected, Nissan announced the recall through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). According to the same administration, the brand has an engine failure, which could lead to a total failure of the powertrain as it loses power.
Affected models
Several models are affected by this failure. According to NHTSA, these are those with variable compression turbocharged engines, specifically 3-cylinder 1.5-liter and 4-cylinder 2.0-liter engines. Among those affected are the following models:
- Nissan Rogue.
- Nissan Altima (2019,2020).

What is the failure that has been detected?

According to Nissan, this is a failure in the bearings of the engine, which gradually degrade and can generate the ultimate uselessness of the engine. This deterioration can manifest itself in many ways, including:
- Presence of warning lights on the dashboard.
- Significant loss of power or failure in acceleration.
- Presence of extraneous noise in the vehicle engine.
- Vibration or irregular behaviour of the vehicle while driving.
What should I do if my vehicle is affected?
If you are one of those affected by this information, either because you own one of the models mentioned, or because you have noticed faults in your vehicle, you must do something about it if you don’t want the problem to get worse. According to FOX Business, Nissan will offer free inspections and repairs, always at official dealerships. Not all models require the same procedure. According to the engine different repairs will be made:
- 1.5L VC-Turbo engines (3 cylinders). There will be a reprogramming of the control module, an oil change and the replacement of the crankcase gasket.
- 2,0L VC-Turbo engines (4 cylinders). In this case, only an engine oil change is carried out.
What else will Nissan do about it?
As of August 22, 2025, Nissan will begin sending personalized letters to the owners of the affected vehicle models to tell them how to proceed. Owners must make an appointment at a Nissan official workshop or Infinity retailer to have their car repaired. Are you unsure whether your vehicle is affected or not?
