The Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced the final payment for retirement in the United States. This is a federal financial assistance that is the main source of income for the elderly. These Social Security checks are paid out on Wednesday of each month, based on the beneficiary’s date of birth. Social Security payments are divided by date, although some of them may vary. In the case of SSDI, retirement or survivors beneficiaries who began receiving their benefits before May 1997, they will receive their check on the third Wednesday of each month, regardless of their date of birth. On the other hand, those who apply for their deceased spouse’s benefit will receive it based on their date of birth.
Social Security Administration (SSA)
The Social Security Administration (SSA) is the agency in charge of providing federal financial assistance to citizens in the United States. They offer multiple benefits, including monthly retirement payments, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), and survivors’ benefits. Each check has a payment date that each beneficiary must be aware of.
SSA Payment Arrangements
The last date on the July calendar for Social Security payments is this coming Wednesday, July 23. Of the SSA’s total of 69.8 million beneficiaries in retirement, SSDI and survivors benefits, the vast majority receive their checks on one of three Wednesdays each month. The Wednesday each beneficiary is assigned varies depending on his or her date of birth. If your date of birth falls between the 21st and 31st of each month, you will receive your check the day after tomorrow. The July payment schedule has been:
- Wednesday, July 9: Beneficiaries born between 1st and 10th.
- Wednesday, July 16: Beneficiaries born between 11th and 20th.
- Wednesday, July 23: Beneficiaries born between 21st and 31st.
Are all beneficiaries paid on Wednesdays of each month?
The answer is no. There are exceptional cases that receive their checks on different dates. This is the case for beneficiaries receiving survivor benefits or claiming the retirement of their deceased spouse. In that case, they will receive their payments based on the date of birth of that person. There are other different scenarios where beneficiaries receive their checks on different dates:
- Individuals who began receiving their retirement, SSDI or survivor payments before May 1997 are also an exception. In these cases, beneficiaries usually receive their checks on the third day of each month, regardless of their date of birth. Under this guideline, the July payment for these beneficiaries was made on Thursday, July 3, 2025. The Social Security Administration (SSA) has its own payment schedules. If the payment cannot be made on the scheduled day due to a holiday or weekend, the payment is advanced to the first business day. For this reason, payments for the month of August will vary for this group of beneficiaries who receive their checks on the 3rd of each month. The payment scheduled for August 3rd falls on a Sunday, so it will be brought forward to Friday, August 1st.
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries. Help for people with low incomes. They receive their check on the 1st of each month.
- Dual recipients (receive SSI + Social Security). Those who receive both SSI and another benefit. They receive the first on the 1st and the second on the 3rd of each month.
Do all beneficiaries receive the same amount?
Absolutely not. Each payment depends on the personal characteristics and eligibility of each beneficiary. According to the SSA, the figures received are around the following numbers:
- Average retirement: $2,002.02 per month.
- Maximum retirement: $5,108 per month.
- SSDI beneficiaries: $1,582.08 per month.
- SSI beneficiaries: $717.75 per month.
- Survivors Insurance Beneficiaries: $1,571.30 per month.
If you want to know how much you would be entitled to for these benefits, you can check it on the official website of the SSA, by calling or visiting one of their offices.
