The U.S. Social Security has released new rules for 2025 regarding the eligibility threshold. Welfare recipients whose household has 5 members, and whose income ceiling qualifies for SNAP, will be able to experience an increase in benefits with SSA’s new 2025 limits. With this new monthly deposit, a total maximum income of $1,158 can be reached.
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program is an assistance provided by the U.S. Social Security Administration. Its purpose is to eliminate the economic gap by helping low-income families purchase basic nutritious foods. The beneficiaries of this program receive an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card, where they deposit the amount they can later spend at different supermarkets, farmers’ markets and other establishments.
It works just like any other credit card, but only with the amount provided by the program, which is used entirely for food. Eligibility for SNAP depends on the requirements imposed by each state, but above all, on the amount of monthly income. This program is aimed primarily at low-income families whose food would be affected if it depended on their income.

The amount of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program varies on a case-by-case basis. There is no fixed amount and it will be the same for all beneficiaries, but is adjusted to the needs of each beneficiary. However, starting this July, the Social Security administration has announced changes in this regard. The seventh month will become the favorite month for large families from now on. Starting July 1, 2025, all households where families have 5 or more members will be able to apply for a change in the amount of their SNAP. The SSA has increased the amount to be received, leaving it at $1,158.
Payment start
Several states, such as Alaska, Rhode Island and New Mexico, issue welfare payments on the first of the month. If you live in one of these states, are low-income and have a household of 5 and do not receive any other type of assistance or income, you have most likely already received your check, which may be as much as $1,158. Payment dates depend solely on your local Department of Social Services. Only through their system will they be able to check the exact date of your payment based on your case number and the state in which you reside.
The entry criteria vary from state to state, and may be based on last name or last case number. If you want to check the date assigned to your case, you can find it on your state’s portal or in your EBT account. The Social Security Administration reminds beneficiaries that the $1,158 figure is the maximum that can be reached, but not a guaranteed amount. In fact, the average SNAP amount for households with 5 members is between $800 and $1,000.
Changes in your SNAP
If you notice that your SNAP benefit amount has changed this month, it is probably due to an automatic adjustment made by the Social Security Administration. Both the Administration and the social agencies review each household’s income, deductible expenses and other assistance that families may receive. Other aspects that are taken into account when recalculating the amounts are moves or changes of employment. If so, the SSA recommends that your records be reviewed so that you do not lose your assistance.
What do I do if I have not received my payment?
In the event that families of 5 have not received SNAP payments despite meeting the requirements, they should file a claim through the ETB card application or by calling the state SNAP customer service number. There is even the possibility of scheduling a telephone appointment to review the records. To find out if your state has already started receiving these benefits, access your EBT account portal, where you can find not only the deposit schedule, but also the amount assigned to your case.
