Confirmed - SSI will make double payments in August, October and December 2025 - see full schedule here

May brought good news for beneficiaries of the U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA). People with disabilities and those over the age of 65 who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) received a “double” payment, which was discovered by the recipients. However, this is neither a double payment nor an error. The SSA payment schedule for 2025 included this double payment, because when the first day of the month falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the administration advances payments to the first business day of the month.

It is for this simple reason that beneficiaries saw their payments duplicated, as was the case of Martha G. de Albuquerque. However, if you have any questions regarding the dates of your payments, you may contact the Administration at 1-800-772-1213 (or TTY 1-800-325-0778 for the hearing impaired).

Social Security Administration (SSA) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

The Social Security Administration (SSA) of the United States is responsible for ensuring that citizens have a minimum income and support throughout their lives. It offers different types of social programs, such as SNAP or Medicaid. In this case, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) provides monthly payments to people with disparities and to adults over the age of 65 who have little or no resources. The amount of this assistance varies depending on the recipient’s total income, assets and housing situation.

Supplemental Security Income payments

According to Social Security Administration (SSA) data, about 7.4 million Americans rely on Supplemental Security Income (SSI). The administration’s method of making SSI payments follows a very simple process; when weekends interfere with payment dates, the date is moved forward. The SSI payment is scheduled for the 1st of each month, without exception. However, when the date coincides with a weekend or federal holiday, the date is moved forward to the first business day.

And this is exactly what happened last May. June 1 was a Sunday, so the administration moved the payment to May 30. This did not come as a surprise to the older beneficiaries, but the new ones interpreted this as a mistake or a double payment. However, the May 30 payment was for June SSI.

Dates of upcoming payments

With the month of July, everything will be back to normal. While for some these advances bring joy, there are others like Martha G. De Albuquerque, who stated, “When the dates change, my medication budget gets out of balance. I am thankful that July comes without a hitch.” However, the next payments bring bad news for this beneficiary. According to the Social Security payment schedule for the year 2025, 3 months of double payments are expected. The reasons are still the same; the stipulated payment days coincide with weekends. The dates of the following payments are:

  • August payout: 1st August.
  • September payout: Aug. 29.
  • October payout: 1st October
  • November payout: October, 31.
  • December payout: Dec. 1.
  • January payout: Dec. 31.

This calendar will help you organize your finances and provide for any necessary expenses.

How can I apply for SSI?

In order to apply for this payment, you must contact the Social Security Administration (SSA) directly, through its multiple channels of attention to the public:

  • Go to a physical office where they can inform and advise you on the requirements to be met in order to receive this assistance, as well as guide you through the application process.
  • Access your personal area on the official Social Security website, through which you can obtain the same information and apply for assistance on your own.
  • You can also call during the customer service period from 8 AM to 7 PM on weekdays. The telephone numbers available are 1-800-772-1213 (or TTY 1-800-325-0778 for the hearing impaired).

Regardless of the method chosen, it is advisable to have recent medical records and current identification on hand at the time of application.
